A conurbation is a huge Traction City formed by coupling together several traction cities, but usually small traction towns and hamlets for protection.

Use[]

Conurbations are combinations of traction towns or cities. This strategy was extremely popular with the German cities, because they were smaller than other European cities. Sometimes, a traction conurbation could be called that if several villages band together to build the city from scratch. However, most of the time, Conurbations were preformed by already existent traction towns.

Conurbations would be created for a number of reason;

  • Protection from larger cities in size
  • Faster engines
  • Higher population
  • Better work coordination
  • Better leadership

Types[]

Historically a conurbation would be a full one; all the towns participating are broken down and rebuilt. However, a 'semi' conurbation means that all the engines and wheels are linked and synchronised, by the tiers remain the same, often creating a wide, odd looking base tier with a variety of different tier heights; one lot might be four tiers but another may reach higher, for example.

  • Full: All towns are broken down completely and rebuilt into a brand-new city.
  • Semi: A new base tier, gut and engines are created. Tracks/wheels may be of different configuration.
  • Quasi: All towns are linked by strong bridges. Engines may or may not be linked. Multiple guts.

History[]

Originally German towns would group together because they were smaller than other European traction cities. However, there are probably a few non-German conurbations too.

Conurbations became less common by 650 TE, in the height of the golden age of Municipal Darwinism.
